Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. The Upper School Fine Arts Teacher is responsible for:
teaching fine arts in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education.
possessing strong knowledge of studio drawing and painting, printmaking, and mixed media.
teaching Advanced Placement 2D Art, Studio II and Yearbook
collaborating with colleagues in the Fine Arts department to create and update plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum.
collaborating with Learning Strategists, Librarians, Educational Technologists, and the counseling staff to develop strategies to support all students.
attending all faculty and employee meetings, participating in the Social Action Program, serving as a student Advisor, fulfilling other faculty duties, and maintaining good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents’ inquiries.

The desired candidate has experience in independent and/or Catholic school and has taught high school fine arts. In addition, the desired candidate develops, in students, both an appreciation of fine arts and the ability to develop portfolios as they pursue further studies. An early career candidate is encouraged to apply, especially one who has an interest in refining the pedagogy, career, and profession of education. It is preferred that the Upper School Fine Arts Teacher hold a Master’s Degree in teaching or fine arts. Familiarity with and/or experience teaching in the model of Understanding by Design is desired, as is someone with demonstrated collaborative skills.
