Full Position Description: Stone Ridge is seeking an Athletic Trainer and Physical Education Teacher to begin work in August 2022.

Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. With over 700 students, and rooted in the Goals of Sacred Heart education, Stone Ridge inspires young women to lead and serve, through lives of purpose that integrate faith, intellect, community, social action, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.

The Athletic Trainer and PE Teacher is responsible for:
serving as an Physical Education (PE) teacher in the Lower School during the school day. Developing and implementing the PE curriculum for designated elementary grade levels, with a primary focus on physical movement, physical literacy, play and teamwork.
creating lesson plans, outlines and objectives for each class as necessary or required.
maintaining attendance and behavioral records, maintaining shared PE spaces and equipment, communicating in a timely manner with parents and Divisions about student progress.
providing athletic training services for the majority of home athletic contests and practices.
supporting the Athletic Department in the daily operation of the athletic program.
assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with the demands of Middle and Upper School athletic programs after school.
ensuring adequate athletic training coverage for all home competitions in conjunction with the Head Athletic Trainer.
acting in accordance with standards set by the National Athletic Trainers Association.
evaluating an athlete’s readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.
conducting initial assessments of an athlete’s injury or illness in order to provide emergency or continued care, and to determine whether the athlete should be referred to a physician for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
collaborating with the Athletic Department to plan, organize and execute special events.

A bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science/Kinesiology, master’s degree required for necessary certification.
Certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC)
Experience working with children in a school environment.
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills as well as high-levels of follow-through.
Advanced proficiency with computers, especially with MS Office, Google Suite and the ability to learn any job-specific software.

This opening runs for the academic year, from mid-August to mid-June. The schedule will include some longer and shorter days as determined by the Lower School PE schedule and the Athletic program schedule to total roughly 40 hours per week. Traditionally, there have been very few weekend commitments and minimal commitments over school breaks.
