Full Position Description: Sacred Heart Greenwich has been empowering girls and young women since 1848 in a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment in accordance with the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education. The school offers a coed program for young children at the Barat Center for Early Childhood Education and then an all-girls experience from K-12 on our 110-acre campus in Greenwich, Connecticut.  We are proudly part of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools.

Position: Middle School Librarian and Director of Library Services
Reports to: Head of Middle School, Head of School
FLSA Status: Exempt 

Job Summary: Essential Responsibilities/Capabilities:


Provide a stimulating and developmentally appropriate environment in accordance with the Goals and Criteria of the network schools of the Society of the Sacred Heart

Oversee every aspect of a K-12 library, including space, curriculum, collections, budget and staff

Show creativity in developing and implementing strategic library programs and services

Design and teach a research and media literacy curriculum to grades 5 through 8

Support and collaborate within the department to teach research and media literacy classes K-12

Develop and maintain a collection of resources for grades 5 to 8 on all topics, meeting the needs of different levels of maturity and different learning styles at each grade level

Collaborate with Middle School faculty to create and carry out projects within the curriculum, integrating the use of research skills and technologies throughout the Middle School curriculum 

Foster an interest in books and a love of reading through one-on-one readers’ advisory, booktalks, book clubs, author visits,  summer reading lists, and related activities 

Encourage empathy and understanding through inclusive and diverse literature while being sensitive to varying comfort levels with sensitive topics in a Catholic school environment

Model a genuine passion for books, reading, research, and media literacy

Be a highly professional, flexible and collaborative leader 

Contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations that cross grades and divisions

Enjoy a natural enthusiasm for working with middle school students and faculty

Actively participation in the Middle School community, including division and departmental meetings 

Plan and participate in special events for Middle School students, faculty, and parents, including the annual Book Fair

Qualifications
A master’s degree in Library Science; four or more years experience as a school librarian with at least two years supervisory experience. Experience with and enjoyment of children in grades 5 to 8 required.  A minimum of 2 years as a librarian in charge of a middle school library curriculum is preferred.

A passion for middle grade and young adult literature and a willingness to read outside of work is preferred, as is technology expertise, including an interest in learning new platforms and resources as needed. Attendance at professional conferences, workshops and meetings is encouraged.
