Position: Physical Education Teacher
Reports to: Director of Athletics
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-time

Job Summary
Sacred Heart Greenwich is committed to excellence in academics and athletics. The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for the instruction of a quality physical education program within the context of the Goals and Criteria that define a Sacred Heart education.
Essential Functions may include:
Plan and teach physical education classes for grades 5th through 8th and assist in Lower School classes as needed
Serve as a member of the Health and Wellness team. This may include teaching, providing guidance, and education in the areas of nutrition and health.
Maintain a current understanding of best practices in the subject areas taught and the developmental needs of the age group of students in his/her care.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Serve as a coach for at least two seasons, with the capacity to coach at the Varsity-level, as determined with the Director of Athletics.
All faculty/staff are expected:
To embrace and live out the mission as outlined in the goals and criteria of the Sacred Heart. To assume genuine responsibility for the community of the School by conducting themselves at all times in a responsible, ethical and professional manner
To be available one week before the opening of school to attend teachers’ meetings and participate in professional development. and to be available no less than one week after the Upper School’s graduation to attend teachers’ meetings, participate in professional development and complete end-of-year duties;
To attend all faculty meetings and workshop days as they are scheduled during the year;
To assist at School functions designated by the Head of School as necessary for the operation of the School (e.g., Parents’ Night, Open House, State of the School, and community grade level events). It is understood that these duties may sometimes extend beyond the normal business hours for school;
To participate fully in regular School programs ( e.g., committees, assemblies, field trips, faculty in-service days);
To share in the planning and direction of student activities and School programs, if appointed by the Head of School;
To maintain high standards for his/her on-going professional development and to participate in the professional development programs offered by the School;
To assume responsibilities as assigned for the supervision of students, including at times of early dismissal due to inclement weather. It is understood that these duties may sometimes extend beyond the normal hours for school;
To participate in the prayer life of the School by attending liturgies and chapel services;
To use technology effectively as part of classroom instruction;
To interact positively with colleagues in creating and imparting interdisciplinary units of study;
To fulfill responsibilities as assigned by the division head in regard to lunch and recess duty, car and bus dismissal.

Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education required; Master’s preferred. 1-3 years experience teaching children in grades 5 to 8. The ideal candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills and a compassionate heart. The ability to develop teaching strategies and teach multiple grade levels is essential. Experience coaching at the middle/high school or collegiate level is preferred.
