Job Summary
Sacred Heart Greenwich is committed to excellence in academics and college placement. The Co-Director of College Guidance is responsible for assisting with the overall operations of the Upper School’s students college placement process within the context of the Goals and Criteria that define a Sacred Heart education. The Co-Director of College Guidance is directly accountable to the Upper School Head.

Full Position Description: Sacred Heart Greenwich has been empowering girls and young women since 1848 in a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment in accordance with the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education. This mission provides opportunities to develop spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. Sacred Heart Greenwich integrates technology into the learning process through projects, exploration, discovery, and creativity.  

We aim to form students of faith, intellect, and awareness, who will use their gifts in service to others. Relationship and mentoring are at the heart of the student experience, which is grounded in inquiry, problem solving, interdisciplinary connection, collaboration, and an understanding of social justice. Student leadership and well-being are connected to every academic discipline, as all full-time teachers are also grade level advisors.  

The school offers a coed program for young children at the Barat Center for Early Childhood Education and then an all-girls experience from K-12 on our 110-acre campus in Greenwich, Connecticut.  We are proudly part of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools. Job Summary

The Co-Director of College Guidance is responsible for assisting with the overall operations of the Upper School’s students' college placement process within the context of the Goals and Criteria that define a Sacred Heart education. The Co-Director of College Guidance is directly accountable to the Upper School Head.

Essential Functions
Primary responsibilities include:

Taking a segment of each graduating class as his/her counselees. This numbers just about one half of the class – approximately 40 students. In this capacity he/she is responsible for counseling those students and their families throughout the college search and application process. Counseling duties include but are not limited to the following: 

Individual meetings with students and their families. This may require meeting families during mutually convenient times which may mean before or after school 

Researching and drafting lists of potential colleges that meet the criteria set by the families in consultation with the counselor 

Discussing the timing and type of standardized testing and test preparation 

Writing comprehensive recommendation letters for all counselees 

Corresponding with college representatives about her students 

Communicating with the other Co-Director of College Guidance on the status of his/her counselees and offering assistance to those students who need help or advice when the other counselor is unavailable.

Sharing teaching responsibilities for an expanded College Guidance class that begins in September of junior year.

Providing tips and strategies for effective interviewing and essay writing skills. 

Critiquing college essay outlines, rough drafts and final drafts for submission to colleges. 

Assisting students with the submission of scholarship applications. 

Meeting with some of the college representatives who come to our campus in the fall. As many as 75 college representatives visit our campus each fall. 

Providing more background information to the students so that they are better informed before college representatives visit SHG. 

Conducting college visits of his/her own to broaden our knowledge of schools and for some colleges to become more familiar with SHG. 

Coordinating/administering standardized testing and AP exams. 

Organizing college related events and panels on campus 

Contributing to/writing newsletters.

Assisting with the development of a college website 

Assisting with the analysis of college decision data for various reports

Contributing to the development and implementation of new initiatives

In addition, the Co-Director of College Guidance  must be available on days when he/she is not in school to communicate with students, parents, and colleges by either phone or email. He/She must have all meetings with parents, colleges, and students on campus unless approved by the Upper School Head.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master's Degree preferred. Experience as either a college/university admissions director or as an assistant director of college guidance preferred. Experience in independent school college guidance is preferred. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
