Position Overview

The Head of Student Life is directly accountable to the Head of Schools, is a member of the Leadership Team and the Academic Team, and works to implement the Goals and Criteria and the philosophy of Sacred Heart education. S/he is responsible for developing and supervising student life and extracurricular activities and after school programs for Kindergarten through eighth grade students at Sacred Heart Schools. S/he provides strategic leadership to assess, develop and integrate the experiences at Sacred Heart Schools that serve the whole child and work towards the holistic formation of our students.

Essential Job Functions:

For Student Activities and Extra-Curricular Activities

Work with Academic Team in providing student activities for Kindergarten – eight grade students
Plan and provide leadership (with Division Heads and parent councils) for all-school functions including Red and White Rally, Congé, Hotdog Lunch, Justice Day, Gallery Night, Talent Show, Special Assemblies, etc.
Oversee Student Government and other student leadership opportunities, including Yearbook and Newspaper
Supervise Athletic Director(s) and Athletic Program
Supervise Student Life Coordinators
Provide support to bus program
For After School Programs

Supervise Core After School Coordinator and Specialized After School Class Coordinator
Hire and supervise after school staff
Research resources within Chicago in order to provide new opportunities for students in extra-curricular and after school programming
Develop programming to meet school needs
Recruit faculty and support program development
Develop and maintain effective channel of communication with Athletic Director and Core After School Coordinator and staff, academic day faculty, parents, students, and administration
Establish and maintain effective advertisement and communication for and about the after school programs
Develop projected after-school budget with CFO, including projected enrollment, income and expenses
Determine fees for after-school programs with CFO
Analyze enrollment data and form classes
Maintain effective advertisement and communication for and about the after school programs, including building and maintaining after school website
Ongoing

Provide leadership for the holistic formation of our students which embodies the pillars of the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education
Serve on Academic and Leadership Teams
Attend all faculty development and in-service days
Supervise School Nurse, Permanent Sub, Community Service Coordinator, Campus Minister and Director of Fine Arts
Hire and supervise before-school & after school faculty and staff
Oversee after school class programs
Provide support for after school student discipline
Support school emergency preparedness
Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required
Master’s degree in education administration or related field preferred
Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic setting
5 -7 years of experience in student life or student service program management
Demonstrated experience managing a variety of staff/faculty
Experience in program development, workshop planning
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
