Sacred Heart Rising 2019

Sacred Heart Rising is a leadership conference for students in Network of Sacred Heart Schools. In 2019, the program is directed toward students in Grades 11 and 12, who are rising or emerging leaders in their school communities.
 
When:
 
Thursday evening, September 19th (5:00 pm) to Sunday morning, September 22nd (11:00 am)
 
Where:
 
Bishop Claggett Retreat Center, Adamstown, MD (www.claggettcenter.org). The center is located approximately 45 minutes outside of both Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD.
 
Bus transportation will be available from both Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI)
 
Who:
 
Current (2019 – 2020) Juniors and Seniors in Sacred Heart Schools. Students may come from a variety of leadership roles in their school, or no formal role at all. We are looking for those with a “spark to be ignited” for Sacred Heart Leadership.
 
Schools are invited to send 2 – 10 student participants and 1 – 3 faculty/staff chaperones (at least one adult must accompany the students)
 
Program:
 
We will be utilizing the Student Leadership Challenge (www.studentleadershipchallenge.com)
in conjunction with our Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria as the framework for our gathering.
 
Students will have the opportunity
  • to reflect on personal and communal leadership;
  • to develop an array of practical leadership skills for lifelong use;
  • to create and begin work on a school project/challenge;
  • to connect and network with other Sacred Heart student leaders.
 
School teams will develop a “back-home” leadership project for their school or community to work on during the 2019 – 2020 academic year.
 
Cost:
 
Students - $375 includes room, board, materials and Network Program fee.
 
Adult Chaperones - $275 included room and board.

    #3DNYC - Diversity, Differences, and Dialogue - Using dialogue training, direct service, and reflection to help students dive deeper into the 8 social identifiers of diversity. The purpose of this project is to educate students on identity, differences, and the importance of dialogue. Specifically, the program aims to: educate students on the 8 social identifiers of diversity (age, race, ethnicity, ability, gender, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status), as well as teach them that diversity and identity are relevant to all introduce the foundations of dialogue and encourage students to use these skills through reflection and direct service provide students with a foundation to design a platform for all network students to dialogue about differences.

Schools of the Sacred Heart share in the educational mission of the Society of the Sacred Heart as articulated in the Goals and Criteria. The structure supporting Sacred Heart education in Canada and the United States includes the Conference of Sacred Heart Education and the Network of Sacred Heart Schools.  Together they provide services and programs to ensure vitality of mission for the member schools sponsored by the Society of the Sacred Heart.
