Educators of the Sacred Heart

    • Untitled-2

As we accompany children and young people of all faiths, Sacred Heart educators aspire to form students who will be the best for the world. Nothing short of excellence will ensure that the members of learning communities develop an informed, active faith; critical thinking and service to others. The Goals and Criteria calls our attention to our responsibilities to accompany students as they develop a multiplicity of skills that enrich the human person, such as creativity, reflection, imagination, and interiority. This document of mission outlines the essential principles and values of Sacred Heart education.
Our work as Sacred Heart Educators is always student-centric. This resource is offered to Sacred Heart Educators as an interactive resource, one to experience. Before one begins to explore the chapters and engage with this book’s content, we invite you to reflect on why we created this resource—our purpose and guiding principles. As you read more about our intentions, we invite you to also set your own intentions:
  • How do you hope to grow in your own self-understanding as an Educator of the Sacred Heart?
  • What does it mean to be a Sacred Heart Educator?
  • How do I come to understand this identity and live into it?
  • How does understanding the culture and values of Sacred Heart schools enable me to embody Sophie’s vision?
Sacred Heart Educators continue to be inspired by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat. She believed that through the process of education, students cultivate the aptitudes to take on responsibilities such as loving the world, cherishing justice, and acting with compassion. Faithful to her vision, Sacred Heart Educators remain committed to create communities that foster justice.
Schools of the Sacred Heart share in the educational mission of the Society of the Sacred Heart as articulated in the Goals and Criteria. The structure supporting Sacred Heart education in Canada and the United States includes the Conference of Sacred Heart Education and the Network of Sacred Heart Schools.  Together they provide services and programs to ensure vitality of mission for the member schools sponsored by the Society of the Sacred Heart.
