Reports to: Head of the Upper School
FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary 
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and collaborative educator whose primary responsibility is teaching the 9th grade Foundations of Literature Curriculum.  

Essential Functions:
  • Teach multiple sections of 9th Grade Foundations of Literature Course
  • Be willing to teach one or more sections as needed in other upper school English Department courses. 
  • Teach in a way that encourages curiosity, independence, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of his/her students  
  • Create a caring classroom environment in which students can learn and interact positively with one another; oversee instruction and authentic assessment. 
  • Interact with parents; maintain open and cooperative communication with parents and families, and encourage their involvement 
  • Participate regularly in Upper School and departmental meetings; work collaboratively on interdisciplinary courses, projects and field trips;
  • Serve as a class advisor; perform various faculty supervisory duties. 
  • Moderate clubs and extracurricular activities. 
  • Use technology with skill.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years teaching experience, experience with upper-school aged students, a master’s degree or higher in English, experience/scholarship in World, English, or American Literature and the teaching of writing,  skill with classroom technology (including blended or online learning), comfort in collaboration with colleagues, and creativity in approach to classroom teaching.
