Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. With over 700 students, and rooted in the Goals of Sacred Heart education, Stone Ridge inspires young women to lead and serve, through lives of purpose that integrate faith, intellect, community, social action, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.

The Director of Social Action provides leadership and coordination for the Upper School Social Action Program in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education. S/he organizes every aspect of the Social Action program, including: morning presentations and afternoon reflections; training and support of Fourth Academic Social Action Leaders; sites for Second, Third, and Fourth Academic student visits; transportation for students and faculty; communication with families; and the cultivation of student leadership throughout the program. S/he is responsible for developing areas of growth for the program, including partnerships with local organizations, determining and designating placement of students at particular sites, and communicating with partner organizations about the nature and requirements of our program. In conjunction with the Head of Upper School, the Director of Social Action manages the budget for the program and expenditures for Student leadership. The Director of Social Action also coordinates student participation in the Network of Sacred Heart Schools Summer Service Projects. 

S/he teaches two class as a member of the Upper School Faculty, actively collaborating with Learning Specialists, Librarians, Educational Technologists, and the counseling staff to develop strategies to support all students. S/he attends all faculty and employee meetings, serves as a student Advisor, fulfills other faculty duties, and maintains good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents’ inquiries. 

The ideal candidate has experience in independent and/or Catholic school and holds an undergraduate degree and demonstrated experience in service learning. S/he has taught in her/his field of study and is familiar with teaching in the model of Understanding by Design. An early career candidate is encouraged to apply, especially if s/he has an interest in cultivating the pedagogy, career, and profession of education. S/he demonstrates exceptional organizational skills; the ability to multitask, working with an range of internal and external constituents; a collaborative spirit; a deep understanding of the School’s charism, Mission, and the tenets of Catholic Social Teaching; and excellent communication skills.
