The principal role of the Lower School Head Science Teacher is to collaborate with the STREAM (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts, Math) team and teach weekly science lessons to students in Junior Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. These lessons should aim to cultivate students’ interest in the natural world while teaching age-appropriate content and skills. This is a co-teaching model. There will be two head teachers in the classroom.

Job Title: Lower School Head Science Teacher

Full or Part Time: Full Time

Have a strong interest and background in Science and STEAM

Demonstrate effective collaboration and communication skills

Master’s Degree related to Education and/or Science/Technology

Develop and teach Jr. K-4th Grade science curriculum in line with Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria

Design age-appropriate, inquiry-based lessons using the latest in science and technology

Support students as they conduct scientific investigations

Promote and encourage excitement about the wonders of the natural world

Implement classroom management strategies to monitor student behavior

Differentiate instruction to support group and individual learning, and provide extra support and enrichment as needed

Facilitate collaboration among students during small group and partner projects

Maintain an ongoing curriculum map for Lower School Science

Collaborate with classroom and specialty teachers to integrate STREAM projects

Attend regular STREAM meetings, as well as faculty meetings, professional development days, and grade-level team meetings as needed

Commit to addressing social justice, diversity, equity, and anti-bias education in the curriculum

Track and assess student progress by communicating with classroom teachers and parents as needed

Provide information on individual student progress on twice-yearly report cards

Plan content aligned field trips and attend trips as needed

Organize and maintain laboratory and materials

Prepare the classroom in advance for laboratory activities

Perform assigned, ongoing scheduled responsibilities with care (roof duty, lunch duty, dismissal, etc.)
