The Position
SHS seeks a talented and highly qualified fulltime Religious Studies teacher at the Preparatory. The duties commence for the academic year 2020-2021 beginning in August 2020 and this particular role may teach Hebrew/Christian Scriptures, Introduction to Catholicism, Personal Morality and Social Ethics to high school students. The successful candidate must prove excellent skills as a teacher and a strong ability to collaborate with colleagues to integrate religious studies coursework with campus ministry and/or other academic disciplines in the Preparatory. Excellent candidates will demonstrate an ability to teach with joy and verve, fostering a love of learning in adolescents. A healthy sense of humor is always a plus.

Key responsibilities for this important role include but are not limited to:
  • Preparing course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  • Evaluating and grading students' class work, assignments, papers, and other assessments.
  • Planning, evaluating, and revising curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
  • Establishing and maintaining an effective classroom culture that supports student learning.
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues to develop and renew curriculum and other school programs.
The ideal candidate must be a practicing Catholic and will have a BA and post graduate work in subject matter and/or educational administration. We prefer to see candidates with an MA degree and/or additional coursework or work experience in a relevant field. A minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience is required as well as a strong understanding of and commitment to curriculum aligned with Catholicism, as interpreted and lived by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
