The Upper School English Long Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for teaching Upper School English in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education. Specifically, s/he would teach one section of Grade 10 British Literature. Working closely with colleagues in the English Department and throughout the Upper School, s/he creates and updates plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum. S/he actively plans with the full time classroom teacher, in advance of her leave; likewise, the Upper School English Long Term Substitute Teacher collaborates with Learning Strategists and Educational Technologists to develop strategies to support all students, and s/he works with the Counseling staff in supporting social-emotional programming. S/he attends all faculty and employee meetings, fulfills other faculty duties, and maintains good communication with families about student progress. Likewise, within this role, there is an opportunity to support the Upper School as a Classroom Proctor.

S/he is familiar with Understanding by Design as the School’s pedagogical approach to instruction. S/he demonstrates strong writing and communication skills, a capacity for organization and follow-through, and flexibility.

Long term substitutes are paid at an hourly rate of $25.00, which is equivalent to $200.00 per day.
