The After School Assistant Director upholds the mission of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools as expressed in the Goals and Criteria and the mission statement of Sacred Heart Schools.  The Assistant Director is responsible to the Head of Student Life and is a member of the Student Life department.  They are responsible for planning and supervising student and extracurricular activities as well as extended day school programs for prekindergarten through eighth-grade students.  On regular school days, the hours for this position will be from 10:00am to 6:00pm (with flexibility for special events).

School Description
 
Founded in Chicago in 1876, Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road (Hardey Preparatory for Boys and Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls) are independent, Catholic, single-sex elementary schools committed to academic excellence within the context of a Christian, faith-based community.  The educational mission is deeply rooted in the 200-year tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart and shared with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools located in 30 countries; including 25 schools in the United States and Canada.  The essence of this tradition is the total development of each child: spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical. In first through eighth grades, girls and boys are taught in single-sex classrooms, but follow a similar curriculum and share in many activities.  With a total enrollment of approximately 600 students, the Schools are organized into three academic divisions each led by a division head.
 
Position Description
 
The After School Assistant Director upholds the mission of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools as expressed in the Goals and Criteria and the mission statement of Sacred Heart Schools.  The Assistant Director is responsible to the Head of Student Life and is a member of the Student Life department.  They are responsible for planning and supervising student and extracurricular activities as well as extended day school programs for prekindergarten through eighth-grade students.  On regular school days, the hours for this position will be from 10:00am to 6:00pm (with flexibility for special events).
 
Essential Job Functions:
 
Core After School Program (ASP) and Preschool Extended Day Program
  • Coordination of the Senior Kindergarten – 8th Core After School Program and the Preschool Extended Day Program by providing a safe, engaging, fun, and nurturing place for students to enjoy after the regular school day ends
  • Planning and leading activities during after school programs, including after school playground coverage, snack, study time, and dismissal
  • Hiring, training, and supervising ASP and Preschool Extended Day support staff including part-time staff and work-study students
  • Ordering and maintaining ASP and Preschool Extended Day supplies
 
Specialized After School Class Program (S-ASP)
  • Planning, implementing, and overseeing the Specialized After School program, including establishing and maintaining relationships with outside instructors/vendors
  • Creating After School Class booklets and communications for advertising after school classes
  • Maintaining after school class database
  • Publishing daily list of students on campus during after school time (includes classes, tutoring, and other co-curricular activities [debate, science Olympiad, musical, choir, etc.])
  • Reconciling and approving vendor payments and material reimbursements
  • Providing snack counts, directing daily dismissal, and supervising children enrolled in program
 
 
 
Student Life
  • Coordinating the Exchange Program (Sacred Heart Network exchange)
  • Assisting Head of Student Life with Clubs (Student Council, Yearbook Club, etc.)
  • Assisting with and supporting ongoing Student Life programming, Red and White Induction, Justice Day, Conge, Field Day, etc.
  • Fulfilling other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Student Life which are subject to change at any time including to satisfy a reasonable accommodation or for other reasons
  • Supporting the Student Life department as needed, including athletics, equity and inclusion, community service, fine arts, and campus ministry
  
Qualities and Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in elementary school student activities or student service programs
  • Management experience required, including a variety of staff
  • Experience in program development
  • Clear and concise communication skills
  • Organizational and follow-through skills
  • Ability to collaborate well with a team
  • Flexible and able to problem solve
  • Fun and engaging personality
  • Computer skills: Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  • Experience with Blackbaud or similar management system preferred
