The Sacred Heart community went the distance at Saturday’s Walk for Uganda! Now in its ninth year, the annual all-school event raises awareness and resources for Sacred Heart’s sister schools in Masaka and Karamoja.

This year, the event went virtual, featuring music, prayer, and personal reflections. Speakers included two students and two RSCJ from the Kangole and Kalungu Secondary Schools, and 91st Street alumna Caitlin Murphy ’17, who volunteered as a teacher at the school during her gap year before college.

After the webinar, students, families, faculty and staff walked, wherever they happened to be, in support of the Kangole school. Organizers set a goal of $7061, which would provide 10 children with tuition, room and board at the Kangole school for one full year. The amount also represents one dollar for every mile between New York and Uganda.

“We are only 486 miles away from reaching Kangole,” said Director of Community Outreach, Michael Chung, who said the link to donate will close October 5.

A recording of Saturday's full webinar is available here.
