Invitation to Hope

Suzanne Cooke, RSCJ
This prolonged period of uncertainty challenges each and every one of us.  What can we do?
Today Pope Francis invites believers of all traditions to pray, fast, and perform works of charity.  He explains that…Since prayer is a universal value, I have accepted the proposal of the Higher Committee for Human Fraternity for believers of all religions to unite spiritually this 14 May for a day of prayer, fasting, and works of charity, to implore God to help humanity overcome the coronavirus pandemic.”

Watch this video from Vatican News to listen to voices of persons affected by the world-wide pandemic united in a "chorus of hope.”

Francis’ invitation reminds us once again that prayer, fasting, and compassionate acts awaken our sensitivity and responsiveness to grace.  Grace is God’s gift of love; it is an invitation to respond with faith, hope and charity.

Let us pray this day to grow in our capacity to see the love of God at work in people and creation. May we respond to Francis’ invitation to consider what qualitative changes in our soul we sense the Spirit calling us to so that we may be active artisans of hope.
